Discipline
1. Purpose
To provide an outline of the modes of action that are to be taken for pupils’ misconduct.
2. Plan
The programme aims to deter/ discourage misbehaviour among pupils especially those that violate the rights of others.

It consists of 3 main stages:
Stage 1 – The CORRECTIVE STAGE
Stage 2 – The CRUCIAL STAGE
Stage 3 – The CRITICAL STAGE

3. Procedure
Chart A, B and C list the offences which are categorized under the 3 stages and the modes of action that could be taken.

Chart A – Stage 1 – (CORRECTIVE)

Nature of Offence Mode of Action
  • Late for school
  • Personal appearance
    e.g. Long/ untidy hair, long/ dirty finger nails.
  • Uniform
    e.g. improper school attire
  • Absent from school without permission
  • Failure to return canteen utensils to proper place
  • Boisterous behaviour
    (making noise unnecessarily)
  • Use of abusive language
  • Use of obscene signs
  • Wearing jewellery
  • Using handphone, pager, walkman, discman, skate-board, roller-blades and other articles not permitted by school
  • Littering
  • Not wearing a badge
  • Action plan drawn up by pupil
  • Warning by form teacher
  • Inform parents
  • Detention/ Articles confiscated
  • Picking up litter
  • Warning letter
  • Counselling

 

Pupils who persistently overstep the boundaries of this stage will enter the Crucial Stage or Critical Stage

Chart B – Stage 2 – (CRUCIAL)

Nature of Offence Mode of Action
  • Leaving school without permission
  • Persistently absent from school without permission.
  • Defiant attitude to prefects
  • Rude to teachers
  • Fighting
  • Using abusive language
  • Gambling
  • Action plan drawn up by pupil
  • Warning by form teacher
  • Parents to be called to school
  • Referred to Discipline Committee
  • Warning letter
  • Counselling

Pupils who persistently overstep the boundaries of this stage will enter the Critical Stage

Chart C – Stage 3 – (CRITICAL)
(Conduct will be reflected in Report Book as Fair/ Poor under Conduct)

Nature of Offence Mode of Action
  • Smoking
  • Substance abuse
  • Theft/ shoplifting
  • Assault
  • Cheating/ altering marks/ forgery
  • Extortion and other criminal offence
  • Vandalism
  • Deliberate defiance to teachers
  • Damaging reputation of the school
  • Pornography
  • Possession of weapons
  • IT related offences

 

  • Action plan drawn up by pupil
  • Discipline Committee & form teacher to see parent
  • Red warning letter
  • Suspension from class – announced at assembly
  • Counselling
  • Caning
  • Public apology
  • Contract between school/ pupil/ parent
  • Expulsion

Pupils who persistently overstep the boundaries of this stage will enter the Critical Stage

N.B. Disciplinary Action

  1. Offences committed inside or outside school will be regarded with equal
    seriousness.
  2. Pupils caught cheating or suspected of cheating in a test or examination will be given zero for that section, minus 20% for the overall paper and may be caned.
  3. Pupils found wearing jewellery or bringing valuables not permitted by the school will have them confiscated.
