2025 DSA Application

INTRODUCTION

At Geylang Methodist School (Secondary) [GMS(S)], we nurture Passionate Learners, Courageous Leaders, and Caring Citizens. Guided by our mission — "With God's help, to be a beacon of light by connecting, nurturing, and inspiring GEMS to make a difference" — we warmly invite Primary 6 students to seek Direct School Admission (DSA), before the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise in 2025, for the 2026 academic year.

Parents and students are encouraged to select schools wisely, considering the student’s aptitudes, strengths, and the school’s academic and non-academic offerings. Students admitted through DSA are expected to honour their commitment by participating actively in their chosen talent areas throughout their secondary school years (Sec 1–4/5).

(1) Badminton for boys and girls (Talent area: Sports and games)

Our badminton team has been placed among the top 8 schools over the years in the highly competitive East Zone Inter-school tournaments. Last year our C division girls clinched the National School Games Championship in League 4. With dedicated coaches and supportive teachers, students thrive in an environment that builds physical prowess, mental resilience, and character.
Selection Focus: Agility, movement and technique execution.

(2) Volleyball for boys only (Talent area: Sports and games)

Our volleyball boys have performed well in the national school games, emerging top 4 in the East Zone since 2010. Our B division team came in 4^th in the nation in 2025 and our C division boys came in 3^rd of the League 1 division in the National School Games Championship in 2024. We develop not only athletic skills but also values of tenacity, graciousness, and respect.
Selection Focus: Athletic ability, skill performance, and agility.

3) Chinese Dance for Girls Only (Talent Area: Performing Arts – Chinese Dance)

Since its inception, our Chinese Dance Group has cultivated technical excellence and strong camaraderie. Our dancers embody resilience, teamwork, and mutual support, and have consistently achieved certificate of Distinction (the highest accreditation) at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) since 2001.
Selection Focus: Dance technique, expressiveness, commitment, and teamwork.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal.  The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 7 May 2025, 11 am to 3 Jun 2025, 3 pm.  For more details, please refer to the MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA

In considering students for direct school admission into GMS(S), we look for ability and potential, as well as positive character traits.

Applicants should possess the following:

(i)          Consistent good conduct in school.

(ii)         Strong aptitude or good performance/achievement in Badminton (boys and girls), Volleyball (boys only) and Chinese Dance (girls only). This includes participation in SYF competitions, zonal and national competitions, or any relevant achievements and experience in related areas.

(iii)        Consistent academic performance.

SELECTION PROCESS

After you have submitted your DSA application, the school will review the application and shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend trials/auditions/interviews or combinations of the 3 by teachers of the talent areas.

All applicants will receive their application outcomes between 25 Aug and 4 Sep 2025.
